May 1st Neighborhood Fun

Recently I was chatting with some mommies. We were commenting on how it is not like the old days, when the kids would run out and about all over the neighborhood. You would have to come home when it was dark and dinner time. The mommies lamented that it was not like that anymore. That the kids are too overscheduled and neighborhoods and neighbors don't lend themselves to the old ways. I am blessed to have one of the neighborhoods that buck the system of today. All the kids can roam the street and the woods with little fear of danger. They are free to make forts, catch bugs, ride bikes, play kickball and wiffleball without worry. The parents don't have to worry either. We have a built in playday on our street and I wouldn't trade it for anything. We were at a friends this weekend and they gave us a big Rescue Hero playstation and bin of Rescue Heros. The girls lugged them all out, including their little rubber animals and the nighborhood played for hours on the rocks in our yard. Free play, it's still alive and well over here.
